Joy comes in the morning

Published by kamirusma at 12:14 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Today is a beautiful day in Southern Illinois. The weather is cool and mild - unusual for September. Typically, the weather is summer-hot, sticky and oppressive. We’ve had such a mild summer that my expectations for weather are completely off.

The guineas are out roaming the property already this morning. They are friendly guineas and will follow me around the yard. Actually, I guess they’ll follow anyone around the yard, although they seem to prefer me. I raised them from keets and I’m wondering if maybe that’s the difference? The guineas I had seven years ago were bought as young adults and they weren’t friendly at all. In fact, they’d run the other way when confronted with a human.

The guineas I have now - most human visitors will get an in-person greeting, while their favorite humans (me, my children, my husband and my grandmother) will get an entourage following them around the yard - chirping and buckwheating their happiness and desire for a treat.

Since it’s Friday, for our homeschooling we do “Life Skills.” Today, the kids will help do yard cleanup after a bad windstorm spawned by Hurricane Ike. Then they’ll help Hubby and I finish the new chicken house.

One thing we have around here are kids and critters, and they all provide great entertainment!
