Special Days - November 10-15
November is designated as Child Safety and Protection Month (that should be every month!), Good Nutrition Month (ditto!), and National Adoption Month (note: most people think about babies and newborns being adopted, which is great, but did you know there are thousands of children of all ages waiting for a forever-home? check out the adoption resources for your state for more info - or go to www.adoptinfo.org).
This week is National Children’s Book Week - so sit down with your favorite child or children and read some good books!
Today (Nov. 11) is Veteran’s Day. Take the opportunity to thank a Veteran for their service to our country. It is those men and women who have dedicated themselves to preserving freedom who are the true heroes. Hats off to you!
Today also marks the anniversary of the signing of the Mayflower Compact (1620). This is something we’ve been studying in our homeschool group - the beginnings of Thanksgiving and we just talked about the Mayflower Compact and why some form of authority and rules are necessary in a free society. Makes you think!
Yesterday (Nov. 10) marked a neat anniversary: Sesame Street debuted in 1969. I grew up on Sesame Street (does that show my age?).
Disney’s Fantasia debuted on November 13, 1940. I love Fantasia! It’s one of my all-time favorite Disney movies. I haven’t watched it in quite some time, but I’m thinking I should - with the kids. I used to have the soundtrack, which was wonderful! I love classical music and the music of Fantasia is unbeatable.
Here’s a very important - though very un-fun event: November 14 is Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. It’s important if you don’t want your fridge smelling funky. I just hate doing it, but I guess I’ll mark my calendar and plan for it on Friday!
