In Celebration of National Children’s Book Week - Faves
I love children’s books and have even written a few for my own children (never been published though!). Since I have three kids, I would consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about books for kids.
In celebration of National Children’s Book Week, I’ve decided to list a few of my own personal favorites - the ones I enjoy reading over and over to my kids (and over and over and over again - you know how it goes!)
The Ox Cart Man
Green Eggs and Ham
The Foot Book
Miss Fannie’s Hat
The Little House on the Prairie Books (all of them)
Guess How Much I Love You
Stellaluna
My Honey Bear Big ABC and Counting Book 123
The Box Car Children
These are just a few - maybe I’ll post another list later.
What are some of your faves?
- Horses in the News for the Week of June 15-21 2008
- Wall Arch Collapses in Utah National Park – see the photos here!
- Love is in the Earth - A Book Review (Sorta)
- DAVID COOK HAS MADE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE IN THE NATIONAL INQUIRER IN AN ARTICLE CALLED: IDOL WINNER BARES IT ALL!
- Children’s Hospital Boston
I love the Sandra Boynton books! The humor in them is sweet and my kids love them. My favorite is But Not The Hippopotamus. For older kids (girls, really) my daughter loves the Rainbow Magic series with tons and tons of fairies. There’s the Rainbow Fairies, the Jewel Fairies, the Fun Day Fairies, the Pet Fairies . . . I really think it will never end.
I liked ALL of the Dr. Seuss books…so much so…I joined one of those book clubs and collected the whole library for my kids.
My most favorite books of all times, though, was Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. I read that one when I was 8.
Wow. There are so many that kind of roll around in my head. Some were books that I read many times with dd and some were books that I read with my former classes. I am sure I will forget some of my favorites, but here’s a short list, in no particular order:
Cookie’s Week, Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed, Goodnight Moon, Go Away Big Green Monster, Hooway for Wodney Wat, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, The Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales (particularly the Stinky Cheese Man part), Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed, Owen, Morris’ Disappearing Bag, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Dear Mrs. LaRue, Bread and Jam for Frances, Too Many Pumpkins, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, It’s Mine!, The Velveteen Rabbit….. I’m not sure that even begins to cover it…and to think I only mentioned one chapter book.
