Rime to Read helps littles one learn to read

Published by kamirusma at 8:28 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I’ve been using a website product called Rime to Read with my youngest as she’s been learning to read.

She’s seven and she’s been a little behind in “getting it” as far as reading goes. She really can read, but she’s also lacked confidence in her skills. Just a month ago if you asked her if she could read she’d tell you no, but she really could - she was just struggling with it.

The concept behind Rime to Read is simple: Young children learn to read through rimes. Rimes are word families (words that use the same letters to rhyme - such as rat, cat, hat) as opposed to rhymes (words that sound alike but aren’t necessarily spelled alike - like son and fun).

Rime to Read offers 20 online books that teach simple single syllable short vowel words. The books use rime patterns rather than phenomes to teach reading.

The books from Rime to Read are printable and there is a sound feature that allows the child to point to the words with the mouse and hear the pronunciation. This helped my daughter with her word recognition.

The books are also printable and users can buy all 20 books for $44.99 or packages of four books for $9.99. Purchase of the books include endless online access as well as the print option.

The website states that it recommends children being four years old and up before introducing reading to them. Now, my daughter is reading much better and I think her exposure to Rime to Read certainly helped that along. She is reading books that are at her age level and beyond - an amazing improvement in such a short time.
